Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa
USB’s Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa conducts multi-disciplinary research and offers educational and development activities to improve the effectiveness of corporate governance in African organisations. The Centre focuses on the development of the compliance and performance aspects of directors’ attitudes, knowledge and skills; and the link between corporate governance, business ethics and total organisational performance. USB-ED’s Africa Directors Programme is presented in collaboration with the Centre.

USB-ED has entered into a full partnership with IDM (Institute of Development Management) in Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho. This partnership includes IDM’s involvement in marketing activities as well as client identification and liaison.
The University of Stellenbosch Business School Executive Development (USB-ED), a private company of Stellenbosch University, and MasterStart, an online education provider, have joined forces to present selected USB-ED focused programmes on an online platform. MasterStart was established in 2014 by ecommerce entrepreneurs with the aim of providing budding entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge to build their own businesses. The business has since expanded rapidly beyond the specialisation in ecommerce, offering a range of courses from a host of globally accredited online education providers.
USB-ED signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Mzumbe University in Tanzania. This agreement is the first step in bringing USB-ED’s programmes to Tanzania.
SEED Educational Trust
USB-ED is the academic partner of SEED Educational Trust, a non-profit organisation that specialises in developing skills, confidence in leaders so that they can lead effectively in the social sector. The course material and process-based approach to training applied by SEED Trust has achieved significant results in leadership development programmes with school principals and deputies, and district officials. Programme participants receive a certificate of competence from the University of Stellenbosch upon successfully completing SEED Trust’s School Leadership Programme offered in partnership with USB-ED.
At the Sustainability Institute, we engage in transformative learning towards just and flourishing futures. Our various activities and programmes strive to realise sustainability through learning, exploring and applying ways of being that are restorative and generative. Founded in 1999, the Institute is an international living and learning centre for theory and practice in values-based, entrepreneurially empowered action towards positive social impact and ecological restoration.
The Empowerment Academy
The Empowerment Academy specialises in offering unique and tailor-made Skills Development solutions to its clients. These turn-key solutions ultimately target the optimisation of these clients’ score for Skills Development on the Transformation Scorecard as specified in the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice. In the spirit of true transformation, versus mere compliance to the Codes, the Empowerment Academy embraces BEE as a sustainable strategy that creates intrinsic value for its clients and is beneficial for all parties involved.
The Ethics Institute
The Ethics Institute (TEI) is a non-profit, public benefit organisation. Their vision of building an ethically responsible society is achieved by forming partnerships with the public and private sectors, and the professions. They serve as a resource through thought leadership, research, training, advisory, assessment and certification activities. USB-ED is a member and training partner of TEI.
The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa (IoDSA)
The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa (IoDSA) is a professional body that exists to promote corporate governance and to maintain and enhance the credibility of directorship as a profession. IoDSA is recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as a non-profit company. USB-ED’s Africa Directors Programme is presented in collaboration with the Institute.
University of Lincoln
USB-ED participants who complete the Senior Management Development Programme (SMDP) have the opportunity to complete a BA(Hons) in Business Management at the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom via distance learning and work-based projects.
Vlerick Leuven Gent
USB-ED, as part of the USB, has reached an agreement with Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in Belgium to collaborate more closely with each other in the areas of research, transfer of knowledge, and management programmes. The partnership extends to a mutual management presence, whereby Vlerick sits on the USB Advisory Board and USB is represented on the Vlerick International Advisory Board.
