These were the five most popular USB-ED courses in 2018

What a year it has been! As 2018 draws to a close, we can reflect on a year that has had its ups and downs. Whilst it has been a tough year economically for many South Africans, the fact that South Africa is steadily making its way out of its technical recession is a reason to be optimistic going into the festive season.

At USB-ED we have seen a positive uptake in individuals choosing to hone their management skills through various of our management development programmes. In fact, our selection of management programmes were our top three courses for the year and would bode well for the country’s leadership in 2019.

In 2018, these were the most popular courses and could serve as an inspiration for those seeking to boost – or kick-start – their career ambitions in the New Year:

    1. Management Development Programme: Master entrepreneurial thinking and cross-functional collaboration to thrive in a rapidly changing world of work. This course empowers individuals to translate business acumen and entrepreneurial thinking into improved organisational performance. The course will give participants the skills to explain the basic operations of an economy and confidently discuss key economic concepts used in everyday economic reports. In addition, participants will be able to read, understand and interpret financial statements to determine the financial health of an organisation. On completion of the course, you will be able to prepare and manage budgets for any department or organisation.

Grab the opportunity to learn about market segmentation and how to best position a product offering for customers. You will be able to demonstrate leadership competence through a heightened sense of curiosity and the confidence to drive a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.

    2. New Managers’ Development Programme: Learn key managerial skills, plus enhanced self-awareness. This programme will teach you the basic principles of management and leadership, and combines a skill set with practical learning.

    3. Senior Management Development Programme: Develop resilience and adaptability and acquire new forms of strategic leadership thinking. As the work environment changes, organisations are looking for managers that can easily adapt to change. Organisations are placing more emphasis on developing a strong succession pipeline of resilient leaders who can easily adapt to change.

The SMDP will help you explore strategic concepts and illustrate the integrative nature of strategy and how to critically evaluate various frameworks and tools.

    4. Young Minds Entrepreneurship Programme: Spend a gap year learning to apply entrepreneurial thinking and placing you in a position to create opportunities – for yourself and others. This programme will help you to define your direction and goals in life while preparing you for a successful career path in business management. You will also gain management and business skills that will increase your employability.

    5. Managing Projects: The Managing Projects course will help you understand the essentials of strategic project management. The concepts learnt from the course are applicable to any project in any industry. The programme will equip you to assess and determine situations which warrant a project management approach and how to respond to the needs of the modern business environment in a structured and practical manner.
